Why Sled Training Is My Go To Workout

Hey there 1nf1n1ty Fam!

It’s your boy, Mr.1nf1nty here. As a reminder, every week I’m going to share insights from one of my 4 pillars of longevity:

  • Physical Health

  • Mindset

  • Nutrition

  • Lifestyle

Today’s focus is Physical Health. For those who follow me on Instagram, you already know there’s one activity I can always be found doing: sled training. Whether I’m pushing, pulling, dragging, or bounding, sleds have become a cornerstone of my fitness routine.

If I had to choose just one exercise to do for the rest of my life, sleds would win hands down. At 46, with my playing career behind me, I’m now a single father of two active sons, a business owner, and a co-member of one of the fastest-growing fitness platforms in the world, ATG. The sled allows me to maximize my time while reaping incredible benefits for my body and mind.

Why Sleds Are So Powerful

Incorporating sled training into your routine comes with an impressive list of benefits:

  1. Conditions Without Wear and Tear
It builds endurance without breaking down your joints or muscles.

  2. Boosts Circulation and Detoxification
Fresh blood and oxygen are pushed through your body, flushing out toxins. (If you’re new to sleds, you might experience what we call “Sled Flu”—that’s your body ridding itself of built-up toxins!)

  3. Activates “Youthening” Hormones
This includes human growth hormone (HGH), which is essential for recovery and vitality.

  4. Total-Body Strength
From head to toe, sleds strengthen your body the way it was designed to move.

  5. Explosiveness and First-Step Quickness
Ideal for athletes who need that extra edge in their sport.

  6. Healing and Therapeutic
Especially helpful for injury recovery and overall mobility.

  7. Mental Toughness
Pushing through sled challenges builds resilience and confidence, equipping you to face life’s difficulties head-on.

Turning Sleds into My Sport

These days, with my packed schedule, sled training has become my personal sport. I don’t do traditional cardio, rarely get the chance to play basketball, and instead, I’ve turned sled work into a series of games. These games give me all the benefits I mentioned earlier—while keeping it fun, challenging, and effective.

Here are a few of my favorite sled routines:

1. 20-Minute E.M.O.M. (Every Minute on the Minute)

  • Routine: Push down and pull back.

  • How It Works: Choose a weight that allows you to get a full stride and focus on your form. Each trip (down and back) should take about 45 seconds, leaving 15 seconds to rest before the next minute.

  • Pro Tip: Count your steps each time, trying to complete each trip with fewer steps as your form improves.

2. 10-Minute E.M.O.M. Push-Only

  • Routine: Super-heavy sled pushes (1/2 trip).

  • How It Works: Load the sled with your bodyweight or more. Push one way within 30 seconds, then rest for the remaining 30 seconds.

  • For Beginners: Start with 10 trips over 10 minutes and build up as your strength improves.

3. Therapeutic Knee Ability Routine

  • Routine: Continuous backward sled drags.

  • How It Works: Set a timer for 30–60 minutes and go nonstop. Focus on perfect form, and if you can, do this barefoot for extra benefits.

  • Why It’s Amazing: This routine has been a game-changer for my knee health.

4. Sled Challenges (aka “F’d Up Fridays”)

  • Challenge #1: Push down and pull back with your bodyweight on the sled. Set a 2-minute timer and aim to complete three trips.

  • Challenge #2: Load the sled with 1.5 times your bodyweight. Complete two trips in under a minute.

Important Things to Note

  • My Sled Lanes are 20 meters down, 20 meters back

  • When I say “trip”, I mean down and back

  • My empty Sled is 160lbs

I’m constantly experimenting with new ways to challenge my body and mind through sled training. These games not only keep me sharp but also help me shred fat, build muscle, and improve mental toughness.

I’d love to hear about your sled adventures. Have questions, ideas, or just want to share your progress? Tag me or reach out. I’m here to help you on your journey to becoming your healthiest and most athletic self.

Let’s keep pushing!
